Castrense ScaturroCastrense Scaturro works as a director and screenwriter with the film production companies Qoomoon, CinemaLive, and the Giffoni Film Festival, where he is also a short film selector and editor for special projects. In 2021, he collaborated with RAI Documentaries as a filmmaker. From 2015 to 2018, he worked as an editor for the film magazine Universalmovies.it, where he wrote a satirical column. From 2016 to 2018, he directed and edited the second season of San Berillo Web Serie Doc, a documentary series about the working-class San Berillo neighborhood in Catania, for the association Trame di Quartiere. After completing classical high school studies, he graduated in Communication Sciences and Languages with a thesis focused on literature and cinema. From 2018 to 2020, he attended the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in Sicily, specializing in documentary filmmaking. Over the three years, he directed the short film Il cavallo e la pernice (2018), the medium-length film La Villa (2019), and the film Fantasia (2020). His graduation film earned a Special Mention at MAAM 2021 in Madrid and was selected for the FIDBA 2022 International Short Film Competition, the 7th Visioni dal Mondo International Documentary Festival in Milan, Simfest in Romania, the 4:3 International Short Film Festival in Ukraine, and the 10th edition of the Catania Film Fest. In 2022, he developed the project Il Memoriale, a feature-length documentary selected for the IN PROGRESS laboratory at the Milano Film Network. The film is currently in production. He is currently collaborating as an assistant director for directors Antonio Piazza and Fabio Grassadonia, Leandro Picarella, and Ludovica Tortora de Falco. Director Scaturro now specializes in creative documentaries, the use and recycling of audiovisual archives, and the development of documentary projects. Through his diverse experiences across filmmaking, editing, and direction, he has developed a distinctive voice in documentary cinema, with a keen focus on stories rooted in community and social themes. His work is marked by a deep commitment to authentic storytelling and an ability to bring to life the nuances of everyday realities. |
